How to Pre-Stretch a New Harp String

A broken string just before—or during—a concert is a harpist’s nightmare. This lesson shows how I pre-stretch a new string while installing it, so it can settle sooner and hold its tuning across more than one song.

I have used this method with nylon, fluorocarbon, and Aquila BioCarbon strings. Work gently and practice first with a spare string: some string types can break if they are stretched too roughly. Big thanks to Mimmo Peruffo of Aquila Strings for sharing this method.
